- Vodka Martini. Shaken, not stirred. And for you?
- The same.
- How do you take it?
- Straight up, with a twist… Thank you, Mister…?
- My name is Bond, James Bond.
- Xenia Sergeyevna Onatopp.
(“Golden eye”)
How many of us have tried the Martini because we wanted to feel just like James Bond? And admit it, the sophisticated secret agent 007 had a really great taste when it comes to drinks, not to mention women. The famous spy is best known for the Vodka Martini, but the "true" Bond Martini, called the Vesper was mentioned in Casino Royale:
“A dry Martini,” he said. “One. In a deep champagne goblet.”
”Oui, Monsieur.” ”Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large slice of lemon-peel. Got it?”
Can't wait to try it now? Here’s how to make
Vesper Martini
3 oz Gordon's Gin
1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Kina Lillet Vermouth
(since Kina Lillet is no longer available, try Lillet Blanc with a dash of Angostura bitters)
Fill the champagne glass with ice and water to frost.
Into a cocktail shaker filled with ice pour all the ingredients. Shake well until icy. Pour ice and water out of the champagne glass.
Serve the martini into a cold champagne glass.
Garnish it with a large lemon peel.
- Enjoy, Mr. Bond.
That was in the book, but what about the famous Vodka Martini?
We’ve got it too. And please, don’t let anyone to persuade you that the Blue Martini or Chocolate Martini is better! James Bond knows which is best!
Here’s the Classic Vodka Martini recipe:
1 1/2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
1 Olive
In a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes, shake vodka and vermouth together. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with the olive.
The Classic Bond Martini is served.
Shaken, not stirred.
